In 2014, PES-Architects’ proposal won the first prize of The Invited International Competition for the Fuzhou Strait Culture and Art Centre in China.
The design takes inspiration from the petals of jasmine blossom, the city flower of Fuzhou. PES-Architects' primary materials for the project were steel, concrete, bamboo, custom-developed ceramic tiles and louvres to create the curving lines of the Fuzhou Strait Culture and Art Centre.
The cultural programs of the Centre are complemented with commercial and family-oriented entertainment services to create a modern hybrid complex.
The 153,000 m2 Culture and Art Center contains an opera house (1600 seats), concert hall (1000 seats), multi-functional theatre, art exhibition hall and cinema center. They are all linked by a Cultural Concourse and a large roof terrace. The roof terrace is accessible via two ramps from the Jasmine Gardens as well as from the Central Jasmine Plaza. An underground promenade connects the center to a metro station.
Fuzhou Strait Culture and Art Centre was opened on October 2018.
