Singapore Changi Airport has cemented its dominance in airport tourism with the opening of its newest dazzling attraction known as the Jewel. The Jewel was designed to reinvent the concourse as a public attraction.
Inside there is a lush four-story garden, more than 280 retail, and dining outlets, a hotel, a multi-screen IMAX theater and its centerpiece: a 40 meters height “Rain Vortex”. This integration of nature with engineering marvels housed under a striking glass and steel dome.
The Jewel Rain Vortex, designed by Safdie Architects, is the world's tallest indoor waterfall. It sends rain-harvested, recirculates water seven stories down from the roof in a circular waterfall. At ground level, the water flows into a giant acrylic funnel that creates an inverted waterfall. At night, the waterfall becomes the backdrop, or canvas, for a first-of-its-kind, 360-degree projected light-and-sound-show.
The stunning 137,000m² Jewel is home to world-class experiences and award-winning airport services. It has won numerous awards such as the 2016 International Architecture Award, MAPIC Awards 2016, MIPIM Asia Awards 2016.
