Gordon Murray Hypercar: GMA T.50

The GMA T.50 or Gordon Murray Automotive Type 50 is a sports car manufactured by Gordon Murray Automotive. Designed by Gordon Murray and inspired by the McLaren F1. He is a South African-born British designer of Formula One racing cars and the McLaren F1 road car. On 4 August 2020, Murray released the T.50 sports car, the "logical successor" to the McLaren F1. The body and chassis are entirely made of carbon fiber and weight is kept below one ton, at 986kg with fluids. The headlights, front fascia, roof scoop and split engine access panels are particularly reminiscent of the F1. The aerodynamics are equally impressive. A distinctive feature of the GMA T.50 is the 8.5 kW 40 cm aerodynamic fan integrated into the rear of the car, powered by a 48-volt electrical motor. Inspired by the Brabham BT46 Formula One car. The T.50 can suck the air under the car at a 90-degree angle and provide a significant increase in overall downforce as it provides a laminar flow of air passing over the rear diffuser.

The interior is yet another throwback to the McLaren F1 with its center driving position flanked by two passenger seats. All three seats are formed from carbon fiber. The clutch and brake pedals are made of aluminum and the throttle pedal is made of titanium. In the engine bay is a 3.9-liter V12 developed and built by Cosworth. It is completely naturally aspirated and makes 654 horsepower and 344 pound-feet of torque and Redline is 12,100 rpm. The engine can go from idle to redline in just three-tenths of a second. With 166hp per liter, the T.50 boasts the most power-dense naturally aspirated engine ever and the engine weighs just 178kg – another record for a road car. Just 100 road-going T50s will be built, each at a cost of $3 million. Production begins in January 2022 with deliveries happening a little later.
