Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, LA, California
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which will be situated in the current place of Wiltshire May Company building, Los Angeles, California, is designed by Pritzker-Prize winning architect Renzo Piano with Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Gensler.
The larger portion of the museum, which will take in the May Company Building, is being renovated and upgraded to hold a mixture of galleries, temporary exhibition spaces, event venues, and a small 144-seat theatre.
In honor of the donation, this building will be renamed the Saban Building. The historic Saban Building will be paired with a soaring new spherical addition to the north which features a 1,000-seat theater and a terrace with views towards Hollywood hills. The revitalized campus will feature more than 50,000 square feet of gallery space, two theaters, cutting-edge project spaces, an outdoor piazza, the rooftop terrace, an active education studio, a restaurant, and store.
The Academy Museum will be the world's premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies and moviemaking and is scheduled to complete in 2019.
