Shazdeh Mahan Garden, Kerman
Shazdeh Mahan Garden, meaning Prince Mahan’s Garden is a historical Persian garden located 2 kms away from Mahan Town in Kerman province. This beautiful garden is built on the slopes of the Tigranes Mountains and dates back to the late Qajar Dynasty.
Shazde Garden has been a special attraction for visitors and tourists due to its location in the middle of the desert and the contrast between its heavenly interiors and the dry desert grounds beyond the walls of the garden. Shazdeh Garden can be named as one of the most beautiful traditional gardens of Iran.
The water supply needed for this garden, streams from the Tigranes Qanat, which originates from the summits of Mount Jupar and the snow thawing of the Tigranes Mountains. This beautiful garden was restored in 1980, and reconstructed after the earthquake of 1981.
The approximate area of the Garden is about 5.5 hectares, with a length of 407 meters and a width of 122 meters. The complex includes two eastern and western buildings, a historical mansion at its entrance, an alcove and a traditional bathhouse. In addition to the authentic architecture of the garden’s main mansion, its fountains, which are constructed based on the laws of physics and altitude, are of the most characteristic features of this beautiful traditional garden. Shazdeh Mahan Garden was nationally registered in year 1974 and was registered on World Heritage List of UNESCO in year 2011, as one of the 9 Persian gardens registered on this list. In addition, UNESCO’s information of this garden are translated into 35 languages and featured on UNESCO's tourism map.
