The Ice Hotel, Sweden
Ice Hotel in Jukkasjarvi village of Sweden, styled as ICEHOTEL is the oldest of all the ice hotels in the world. Founded in 1989, it is built every winter and melts every spring. It’s the Torne River that provides ICEHOTEL with its ice in winter – and in the summer when the hotel melts, the water returns to its source.
The whole project of Ice Hotel started as a challenging art exhibition made of ice and snow. Later on this idea inspired other creative architects of several countries to start the tradition of the ice hotel in winters.
Every year a particular theme is selected to build ICEHOTEL. Artists from all across Europe are invited to design ICEHOTEL according to the particular selected theme and take part in creating the art exhibition of snow, ice and light that makes up ICEHOTEL.
It has around 150 warm and cold beds respectively, luxury suites each with private relax and bathroom, and art suites, all sculptured by selected artists. In addition, the complex includes ice church, ice bar and ice sculpting studio. The hotel also includes two heated restaurants, lounge, four meeting rooms and two wilderness camps.
