teamLab (f. 2001) is an international art collective, an interdisciplinary group of various specialists such as artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians and architects whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, and the natural world. Such a wide range of professions is the exact reason why teamLab’s members call themselves ultratechnologists.
They are primarily known for their complex installation pieces that force the viewers to participate with the pieces, placing the audience amidst a whole new world for them to explore. By doing so, teamLab’s installations are investigating human behavior in the chaotic information era and are proposing innovative models for societal development. teamLab offers the audience an opportunity to participate in the artwork and become a part of it. They have held many exhibitions, art installations, and digital museums worldwide.
teamLab, based in Tokyo, has won numerous awards such as TANC Asia Prize 2015, Honorary Mention in Prix Ars Electronica 2014, Unity Awards 2013, Lava Virtual ReVolution 2012, The 14th Japan Media Arts Festival 2011, etc.
